Meja Salumu
Artist Teacher

Meja Salumu is an artist and painter, Arts is my profession, I was born with talent of Arts, I never attend college, I learn from my fellow Arts, I have 20 years’ experience in the Art field. He works on the ARTS4 WILDLIFE project as Artist teacher. The project is under collaboration between Katie Adamson Conservation Fund- and Peace for Conservation to teach school children from primary and secondary schools to learn Arts via painting and sculpture, and taking painting courses in order to gain self-employment through selling art work to tourists visiting Serengeti National Park and Kijereshi game reserve.

Meja is participating in the International Mural by Mail Project, started by the Center. The project gives artists, like Meja, the opportunity to network and communicate visually with other artists on a global scale.

International Mural by Mail brings together artists from opposite ends of the world in a creative visual collaboration. Meja working on 2 large-scale drawings that go back and forth between Portland, Oregon, the US, and Tanzania. The drawings will eventually become 8ft x 16ft mural paintings.

Working together in this way allows us to have conversations that are visual as well as verbal, allowing us to make deep, complex connections with collaborators in very different places. I see the potential for this collaboration with International Mural by Mail project to benefit both communities in many ways,
